The importance of cybersafety

Most of parents think that browsing internet is safety, and their children are in safe side and do not face problems and harassment from others online. But in fact, there are a lot of children who exposed a lot of harassment. Every day the ways that those people use it are increasing. The risks that face the kids are:

·        Identity Thieves, ID theft is what happens when someone uses another person’s private identifying information – like usernames, passwords, bank accounts, credit card numbers, and so on.

·        Hackers, Hacking is when someone manipulates the features of a system in order to do something different than what the original inventor of the system intended. Originally, hacking was supposed to be a fun and educational practice.

·        Phishes, Phishing is when con artists use email or fraudulent websites to get people’s private information – like passwords, usernames, bank accounts, credit card numbers, and so on.

·        Cyber Bullies, Cyber bullying is when one kid is threatened, harassed, persecuted or humiliated by another kid using technology like the internet or cell phones.

Ways to ensure internet safety (audio):

In the tech2000, we are done discussion on how to protect the children from the cyber bullying by using WhatsApp tools. The instructor divides us into groups, the numbers of students in each group were 6 students and the instructor was the seventh. Each group has a leader who enters us to the group. Our instructor gives us articles to read it and then start discussion with group members. This activity takes one week. In fact, this was new experience that uses WhatsApp tools to learn new topics and discuss about it among my classmates. I learn new information to how protect children from the cyber bullying and keep them in safe side. Also, we were happy to discuss and participate in the WhatsApp group. But our instructor does not participate with us, so, the discussion was active in time and inactive in other. It is important that teacher participate with students to motivate them to continue the discussion and to guide them in each steps until it finished. Also, they should give students feedback in what they post in the discussion such as information, images, and videos.
From this activity I learn:

·  The strategies that cyber bullying uses it to hurt the children? These strategies are:
1.     Send e-mail that threats them.
2.     Send links that steal their personal information.
3.     Publish their personal information to the others.
4.     Encourage them to open bad websites.

· The techniques that should parents\teachers applying to protect children which are:
1.   Using programs to controls the website that children can browse it such as (Cyber angel) URL= http://www.guardianangels.org/cyberangels.php)
2. Inform the children and students about the dangers they may faced in the internet.
3.Inform them to tell anything\problems they faced to their parents\teachers to know how to deal with the problems.

Usually I think about how I will controls and manage my classes in future, especially, I will teach in labs and it is huge. In addition, each student has computer and the age of students around from 7-16 years. All this factors make the control of the class difficult. But, from this subject I learn more about how to keep students in safe side and make them motivate in the class. As I tell to my friend in the group discussion, I will use program to manage the students' computers and I will inform them about the dangers the may faced in the internet. Doing formative workshops for parents and teachers are very necessary to tell them about it to play big role in protects the kids in schools and homes. Finally, before to learn students about programs and other aspect in IT is important to teach them about cyber safety. So, the ministry of education should include this topic into IT curriculum.
